Tips

Put your feet as you would for a 360 flip

1 / 19

Bend your back knee toward the nose, close to front knee, slightly frontside

2 / 19

Apply a lot of pressure on your both feet toes, slightly curving the board

3 / 19

Make sure your back foot is pressuring on the edge of the board, not on the grip tip

4 / 19

Wind up your knees from the nose to the tail, from the frontside to the backside, as you start popping

5 / 19

Open your back arm to help your body twist and give your trick a direction

6 / 19

Turn your head to look at your back foot and turn your shoulders backside as well

7 / 19

Keep your balance even, put a bit more weight on your back foot. Lean just slightly forward

8 / 19

Scoop down diagonally, not straight down as you would for a pop shuvit. The scoop also has to go diagonally between your back and the nose of your board, near your back-tail wheel

9 / 19

Stay on your tip toes as long as you can, until you release the spin

10 / 19

Let your front foot slightly slide off the board to complete the kick flip rotation, but just slightly. Keep in mind half of it comes from the back foot

11 / 19

Both of your feet work at the same time, releasing the pressure of the board. There is no delay between them

12 / 19

Transfer a bit of your weight from your back foot to your front foot as you jump

13 / 19

Lift your front foot and make sure it does not touch the board

14 / 19

Stand upright as you jump

15 / 19

Lift both of your feet to leave room for the board to fully rotate

16 / 19

Spread your legs while in the air so that you don't land with your feet too close to each other

17 / 19

Catch the board with your front foot or with both feet

18 / 19

Be ready to land in switch and pivot if you need to adjust your rotation

19 / 19

Mistakes

'I land behind my board'

'You are slightly pushing the board forward, which is a natural behaviour for this trick. Just jumping a bit forward will fix this issue'

1 / 6

'I miss some body rotation'

'You are not winding up enough. Focus on bending your back knee toward your front knee and feel the power it generates. Also, remember that you will land switch, your shoulders must turn 180 degrees'

2 / 6

'I miss some shuvit rotation'

'You are focusing on the flip too much. Your front foot barely flicks the board, almost everything comes from the back foot for the tre, even half of the flip, like the 360 flip'

3 / 6

'I under rotate the flip'

'You are either not flicking at all, or having a bad scoop. Let your back toes hang off the board, apply presure on your toes, scoop diagonally and remember to slightly flick your front ankle'

4 / 6

'I slip out when I land'

'You are scooping too far. Your back foot should come back to its initial place as you release the bounce, in coma shape, and not keep going further in a half-circle shape. Spread your legs and be ready to roll switch'

5 / 6

'I often need a pivot at the end'

'You are commiting too much with your shoulders. Either try to follow a more preise direction, or turn slightly less so that your natural over-rotation actually completes the fully 180 degrees without exceeding it'

Helpers

One foot practice

Do a bigspin flip and try to land it with your front foot only. Focus on keeping control and feeling the rotation. Rolling slowly tends to be easier than being stationary for this trick

1 / 3

Specific trick

The bigspin flip is a perfect combination of a bigspin and a tre flip, not only visually but in the body movement and feeling as well. Practicing those two tricks will definitely help you land it

2 / 3

Specific module

You can practice the bigspin flip on bank ramps or pyramid transfers, as the board rotation in both cases is less than 360 degrees, requiring less effort and technique to success

3 / 3

Variations

The scoop might be lighter than you think, like for a 360 flip

Transition

Throwing your board without popping might help you get some rotation speed, but it will be harder to land and limited with obstacles
