Tips

Put your front foot under the bolts, slightly lower then you would for a regular kick flip, and angle it about 45 degrees

1 / 12

Put your back foot in the middle of the tail, you need a lot of power for a double flip rotation, thus as much pop as possible

2 / 12

You can keep your back foot at a right angle to the board or point it slightly toward the tail, or even the nose

3 / 12

Give a snappy pop with your back foot and slide your front foot upward, as you would for a regular kick flip

4 / 12

Move your front foot toward the inner pocket of the nose just as the nose starts to rise

5 / 12

Lift up your back foot to give the board room to rotate

6 / 12

When your front foot reaches the pocket, flick your ankle hard outward to accelerate the flip motion

7 / 12

As you flick the board, your front foot will move over the nose, and your front knee should extend well over it

8 / 12

Push your front foot even further toward the nose to keep accelerating the flip rotation

9 / 12

Basically, neither foot should go down at any point before the board has completed its rotation, even though it feels like it does, and if you do so just slightly it should be fine

10 / 12

Keep both of your feet up in the air as long as you can to let the board fully flip. The second flip is slower than the first one

11 / 12

You can catch the board with your back foot to stop the rotation, or with both feet if you prefer to, when you see the second flip is about to complish

12 / 12

Mistakes

'My flip is too slow to complete a double flip'

'Probably a mix of everything. Work on your flick movement, kick the board harder away, pop harder as well if you can, and bend your knees longer'

1 / 3

'I catch my board, which makes it impossible to keep on flipping'

'You are not bending your knees long enough. Bend your knees higher and longer before extending your legs'

2 / 3

'My double kick flip is rocket'

'This is due to the amount of energy required. Push slightly down as you slide up your front foot, or wait slightly more before flicking'

3 / 3

Helpers

Muscle memory

Practice the double kick flip with no intention of landing it, just spread your legs before landing on the ground so that none of your feet touches the board. Repeat this over and over

1 / 2

Hold a rail

Practice the double flip while holding onto a handrail. This allows you to spend more time in the air, and helps keep your shoulders square. This also prevents you from falling

2 / 2

Variations

Play with your front foot position to understand whats feels better for you (length, width and angle)

Transition

Pushing down with your front toes will help you complete the double flip rotation, although this will prevent you from jumping high and catching properly
