Tips

Put your front foot in the middle of the board and angle it toward the nose

1 / 17

Put your back foot in the middle of the tail

2 / 17

Put your back foot in the outer pocket if you prefer, but do not let your toes hang off

3 / 17

Apply some pressure on your toes, but do not lean forward too much

4 / 17

Put all your weight on your back foot from the moment the tail touches the ground

5 / 17

Push straight down on your tail and wait just a bit

6 / 17

Delay the scoop from the pop, it is important to produce a 'straight-angle-shape' and not scoop diagonally

7 / 17

Then scoop with the shape of a 'comma', not perpendicular to your board as you would for a shuvit

8 / 17

Scoop hard and long on the ground, as though you were drawing a quarter-circle on it

9 / 17

Release the spin when you

10 / 17

Lift your front foot and make sure it does not touch the board. The entire rotation comes from the back foot

11 / 17

Stand upright after letting the spin go, as you will likely lean forward

12 / 17

Lift your back foot as well to leave room for the board to fully rotate

13 / 17

Keep your front foot above your board the whole time, and bring it back if it goes off

14 / 17

Your back foot moves in front of you as well after scooping, as it lifts upward

15 / 17

Spread your legs slightly in the air to avoid landing with your feet too close to each other

16 / 17

Catch the board with your front foot when you want to stop the rotation

17 / 17

Mistakes

'I land behind my board'

'You are slightly pushing the board forward, which is a natural behaviour for this trick. Make sure your tail touches the ground and jump a bit forward'

1 / 5

'My body turns frontside'

'You are not scooping enough and trying to land it anyway. Keep your shoulders square, scoop hard, and let the board come back to you'

2 / 5

'I miss some board rotation'

'You are not pushing hard enough on the ground. Once the tail fully touches down, push harder and longer than you might think before letting the board go'

3 / 5

'The board flips'

'Don't hang off your back toes if you are doing so. You are either using your front foot without noticing, or scooping diagonally. Lift your front foot straight up, and push down before moving backward with your back foot'

4 / 5

'I often need a pivot at the end, or I kind of fall forward'

'You are either not scooping backward enough, or leaning forward. Stand upright, jump a little forward, and scoop a bit harder'

Helpers

One foot practice

Do a 360 backside shuvit and try to land it with your front foot only. Focus on preventing the board from flipping. Rolling slowly tends to be easier than being stationary for this trick

1 / 3

Specific trick

The scoop of the backside bigspin is basically the same as the 360 shuvit one. Give it a few tries helps feel this new scoop, and train preventing the board from flipping

2 / 3

Specific module

You can practice the backside 360 shuvit on pyramid transfers, as the board rotation in both cases is less than 360 degrees, requiring less effort and technique to success

3 / 3

Variations

The lower your front foot is, the higher your board goes and the faster it rotates. You can lift your board vertically for height, control and style

Transition

You can let your back toes hang off the board and pull your foot back without making the tail touch the ground. This will make the board do a 360 power slide shuvit, but you will have no pop
