Tips

Put your front foot around the middle of the board or a bit higher, with all of your toes hanging off pretty much

1 / 15

You can angle your front foot toward the tail if you feel more comfortable

2 / 15

Put your back foot at the very edge of the inner pocket, even slightly near the back heel wheel

3 / 15

You can angle your back foot toward the tail as well if it helps with the rotation

4 / 15

Bend down on your knees a lot because you will need a lot of energy for this trick

5 / 15

Apply some pressure on both of your feet toes, especially on your front foot, right before you pop

6 / 15

Lean slightly forward before you pop, this will help you jump slightly forward, where your board will land

7 / 15

Keep your shoulders square, don't face the direction you are going too much otherwise you might end up doing a backside heel flip

8 / 15

Pop straight down with your back foot and scoop slightly toward the nose, but don't scoop backward

9 / 15

Stand upright as you pop, don't keep leaning forward

10 / 15

Rotate your front ankle and slide your foot upward, don't kick forward right away. Otherwise it will end up being a pop shuvit

11 / 15

After a split second, kick forward with your front foot, almost toward the tail. Your front foot does kind of a coma shape

12 / 15

Flick your front ankle up as your front foot leaves the board to flip it with your heel, not with your toes

13 / 15

Bend your back knee hard after scooping and pull it up as high as you can to give the board space and time to fully rotate

14 / 15

Your legs end up doing kind of a weird scissor shape. Keep that sensation in mind, but don’t focus too much on replicating it

Mistakes

'I can't combine both the heel flip and backside shuvit at all'

'You are either popping the trick or scooping backward. Check your foot positioning, scoop the board toward the nose and let the board lift up vertically'

1 / 5

'I can land it with either of my feet but not with both'

'You are either not committing or throwing the board away. Commit fully, use enough energy, bend your back knee and work on the scoop'

2 / 5

'I land behind the board'

'You are not leaning forward. Lean slightly forward, and stand upright as you pop'

3 / 5

'I can't do a whole shuvit'

'You are missing accuracy with your scoop and your flick. You now have to find the perfect timing and combination between those. You can now start thinking of your scissor shape'

4 / 5

'I fall forward after landing'

'You are leaning forward too much. Stand upright as you pop and don't jump forward. Leaning forward at the beginning will already make you jump forward'

Helpers

One foot practice

Do an inward heel flip and try to land it with your front foot only. Focus on keeping control and feeling the rotation

1 / 6

Specific trick

You can practice the backside heel flip. Make sure you are doing the whole 180 backside rotation in the air so that your backside heel flip looks like an inward, with a slight scoop

2 / 6

Specific stance

You can practice this trick in fakie stance. Popping in fakie helps lift up the board, which requires less scoop. You can also practice stationary

3 / 6

Specific module

You can practice the inward on bank ramps. The slope makes it much easier to lift the board vertically. Lean toward the tail just a bit not to slip out

4 / 6

Scoop exercice

Stand behind your board and pop on the tail with your back foot, applying the forward scoop without pushing the board away

5 / 6

Half motion

Try to land the inward heel flip with only half of a flip, this should be halfway through the trick

6 / 6

Variations

If the slight scoop doesn't help, you can pop straight down. Don't push down with your front foot

Transition

You can push down with your front foot (in front of you, toward the tail) but this is ugly, uncontrollable, not catchable, and even not pleasant to do
